Kentucky Women Are Still In the Red
Tuesday, April 22, 2008
Tuesday April 22 is National Equal Pay Day. According to the National Committee on Pay Equity (NCPE) the day is observed on a designated Tuesday in the month of April because a woman must work this far into the year on average to earn as much as a man earned the previous year. (Tuesday is the day on which women’s wages catch up to men’s from the previous week).
Governor Beshear Honors Kentucky Women

Governor and Mrs. Steve Beshear, joined by the Kentucky Commission on Women, today honored three inductees, Sally Brown, Dr. Jacqueline Noonan and Lyda "Gertrude" Ramey, to the Kentucky Women Remembered exhibit at the state capitol. The exhibit recognizes outstanding Kentucky women and their lifetime achievements. The governor also signed a proclamation declaring Women’s History Month in the commonwealth. Today’s event kicks off this annual March celebration.

Gov. Steve Beshear has the following members to the Kentucky Commission on Women; Vera A. Newton, Aloma Williams Dew, Carolyn O'Daniel, Kerry S. Morgan, Joan Gregory. These appointments will serve for terms expiring Jan. 17, 2012.

Gov. Steve Beshear today announced the appointment of Eleanor Jordan as Executive Director of the Kentucky Commission on Women. She is the first African-American to be appointed to this post since the commission’s initial creation in 1964.
